Where does Excel (v.X) keep its auto-save (auto-recover) files?

My preferences are set to have it auto-save every 10 minutes... but I can't see that its auto-saving anything. And there's something I need to recover.

Howdy. The auto-save saves the current file exactly where you saved the file. It doesn't create a new version.
Ignore the argumentative nature of this poster. He is old and can't engage in meaningful dialog
very long. Therefore, management asks that you at least humor him. Thanks.
