I have a bunch of music that I ripped myself from CDs I own. When I ripped them I set it up for Apple's Lossless format. After ripping about 20 - I'm starting to see that this is a fairly "hungry" format when it comes to disk usage.

Is there anyway to change that encoding for the music I've already ripped or will I need to delete them and re-rip?

Thanks

Preferences -> Advanced -> Importing

as far as I know you'll need to re-import.

You won't need to re-import, since Apple Lossless is just that--lossless. Switch your importing preference, then select your music, control-click them, and choose "convert to [format]."

When it's done converting your existing music, delete the Apple Lossless versions.

Rather than control-clicking, you can also just go to the Advanced menu and select "Convert to [format]"

Why is it that I still have the option in the "advanced" menu to "convert selection to MP3" even though when I originally downloaded them they saved themself to my computer as an MP3? Is this just a way of duplicating them or is it because of something else?
Thanks
