I just want to know which of PS filters are single processor aware. I just want to run my iMac against my brother's computer on single processor aware applications and we both have PS. Can anyone help me with this? I googled it with no real results. Thanks.

Huh? All Photoshop filters run on single-processor Macs.

I think mindwaves wants to know which PS filters are single threaded, so that a multi CPU box will only be able to use one CPU on them to compare performance between two machines.

That being said, I can't find a list of single and multithraded filters in Photoshop.

Sorry, mduell is right. I phrased my question wrong. Yeah, I was looking to find some list. I know that barefeats.com runs some PS single-processor aware (as opposed to dual-processor aware) tests, but I cannot find how he tests them.

Err... all applications* are single-CPU "aware". If not, they couldn't run. Are you really asking "multiprocessing unaware"? (As in, incapable of taking advantage of extra processors.)

*At least, I don't think I've ever seen an app that has dual or more CPUs as the base requirement.

Yes, that is what mduell and I have been saying.

Well, just as an update. We ran Cinebench benchmark software and overall, my computer (iMac G5 1.9GHz) was faster single processor wise than his 2.8Ghz dual-core P4 (single processor wise) and in a number of graphics test also. Will run some PS tests found on arstechnica forums later.

No, actually it's not, but whatever.

My point was that "aware" implies deliberateness. You don't have to deliberately make something single-processor compatible. You do have to deliberately make something multiprocessing compatible, but only when needed, since you may not want it running multiprocessing-optimized code when running on a single CPU.
