Greetings! Merry Christmas!

Copied a few DVD's as backups, but when played on regular DVD players, the video tends to skip. The audio does not. Ends up looking like a streaming video on the web over a slow connection. Does NOT occur when I play said discs on my PowerBook.

What's going on?

Yes, I absolutely have found that the brand of media makes a HUGE difference. I am using Maxell and have had good luck. Believe it or not, the Apple branded DVD-Rs have been a problem for me.

Tried burning at lower speed?

Also how much compression is Popcorn doing. Compressing a full DL DVD to a single layer DVD just yeilds very poor results.

I've used Popcorn to copy many DL DVDs with excellent results. I see very little if any loss of quality.

Almost certainly it's the media. Use TDK and burn at the SLOWEST speed. I have played back my discs on a number of plain old dvd players and they all work fine.

Sorry I took so long to reply...

The media in question is Memorex DVD-R. Not exactly what I would consider substandard, unless you guys know something I don't.

That said, I do have the burn cycle set to burn as fast as possible. Does that really make a difference?

I need to try these things in my Denon DVD player. Will advise...

Yes, absolutely. The faster the burn speed, the lower the chance the data is recorded with integrity and will play back on finicky (read: older) dvd players.

When I am burning DVDs for customers, I take the time to burn at a lower speed. It's well worth it.

Roger that! I'll give it a go and report back.

Thanks!

Looks like burning at the slow rate worked! The discs are playing just fine on a less-than-premium-brand DVD player.

Thanks!
