Hello. I am a young programmer/web design enginer, and I just got a new iBook G4 with Mac OS X (10.4.x). I am used to using either Microsft Paint on a Windows machine, which is okay, but not my favorite.
At school I use a program called "Color It! 3.5", which runs on a Mac 9.2. They've installed Mac OS 9.2 onto new eMac computers, so they can use programs like Color It!, and other games and programs that never made it throguh the update.

Can someone tell me if there is something availible that is like Color It!, but for the Mac OS X's system?
Also, I would like to know if there is a post somewhere on this board, or somewhere on the web that will show me what software I need to install 9.2, and how to do it.

On the eMacs at school, in the Machintosh HD, there is another folder called "Applications (Mac OS 9.2, or something like that).

If you could answer my two questions, or atleast one of them, I would be very greatful.

Thank you,
Chris K.

Hello. Thanks for posting your reply. I tried ArtRage, but it wasn't quite what I was looking for. I need something more like Microsoft paint. I need a program that lets you creat lines, boxes, circles, and etc. I also need to be able to select a section of that image, and move it, rotate it, and etc.
But I would really like to know how to install 9.2. Are there any guides on the net?

You do not need 9.2. OS X Tiger has something called Classic (which is a subset of 9.2) which allows you to run older applications. Just insert the disk/cd as usual and install like nothing ever happened and it should work. Besides, I do not believe that newer computers like yours (with the possible exception of eMacs) can even install 9.2 anymore.

Okay, then. How do I know if I have Tiger?

Plus, I need to know where I can get a copy of Color It!

[EDIT: I tried inserting an old program that ran on classic, and in the dock, the 9 logo started bouncing, and then said that I didn't have the system folder. Where do I get that?]

I wish people would stop spreading this misinformation. Maybe it's just your wording.

No new Macs have been able to BOOT into OS 9 for over two years now.

ALL new Macs (meaning ALL of them) come with Mac OS 9 on the Install Disc (or the 2nd Install Disc, as the case may be). This Mac OS 9 is an optional install and will run most OS 9 software with no problems from WITHIN OS X (known as the Classic environment).

The relevant Install Disc will be labeled in small print "includes Mac OS 9.2.2". Insert that disk, and double-click the appropriate installer package.

If you have an iBook, you also have AppleWorks installed by default, which has a rudimentary Paint/Draw module. Take a look at that. It should be able to do most of what MS Paint ( ) can do.

Appleworks paint kicks MS Paint's ass. And that really isn't saying much, both are terrible.

I would be hesitant to install OS 9.2 in classic just for a rudimentary paint program. Check out AppleWorks' paint module, or better try GraphicConverter. Despite the name, it does more than convert graphics - it is more capable than MS Paint at drawing shapes, rotating, and other features.

No offense, but that needed clarification.

The clarification only being the eMacs part. The rest of my statement was true.
