There's a bug in the AOL program.
1. When you download the lastest software from AOL's website, you get AOL 10.3.7 (Revision 4136.310). This revision of the AOL program does not have the "IM" componet (which should be between the "chat" and "download" items) when you go to the "Preferences" under "AOL" in the menubar. When you load the program you can use AOL's web browser but the "Buddy List" is no longer included, so you can't see if your friends are online, because you will not get a "Buddy List" window.
2. When you download the AOL software from the CD they give away, the AOL program you get is AOL 10.3 (Revision 4136.207). This version of the AOL software includes the "IM" preference between the "chat" and "download" preferences. When you start the program you will get a "Buddy List" window, but if you try to use the AOL web browser, you'll only get a window that opens that has an asterisk in the upper left corner. How frustrating! Without the web browser you can't see the profiles of your friends and you cannot access other information such as the articles AOL highlights in the opening window.
I hope the above information will be of help to those of you who are AOL users.
Happy New Year to everyone,
Don
