This is my own stupid fault. For the last couple of years I have enjoyed the pleasure of having a free web host, and merrily I have uploaded more than 3000 pictures to 200 different galleries. But now that time has come to an end, as of January 10th my web host is closing down.

Now I have to find a way to copy the pictures to my Mac. Do I hear someone say FTP? Don't have it, this was all based on uploading from a web browser. Automator? Yes, Automator allows you to

1) Go to the current web page in Safari
2) Get the URL's to all images linked to from a gallery page
3) Download the images to a folder

Hurrah! But, alas, no. My web host pulled one last trick out of his sleeve: He password protected my site. I guess he wanted to cut down on the transfer allowed. He did of course give me the password, so I have access to my site through a browser.

So, my options are:

1) Spend the next two weeks in front of my Mac, downloading each and every image by itself.
2) Find some app or Automator action that will allow me to "grab" all the images on a web site or gallery page.

2) sounds a lot better than 1), I can tell you that... Does anyone know of such an app? Help would be appreciated!

If you use such a format, does the Automator action work?

Didn't think about that. But my username is my email address, so "myname@gmail: password@mysite.com" just redirects to gMail. Thanks for the tip, though

Do have golive (I'm sure others do this) but you can download your site with that.

Another option - can the web host back up your images on dvd for you?

I'm confused about your remark about FTP, if you have the ability to retrieve them via FTP, and they are someone logically organized, then I'd purcahse a graphical FTP client and download the whole structure. Its be worth the 20 to 40 bucks.

Mike

Edit: Hopefully this will be a painful lesson and that don't use the online storage as your single respository for pictures. I use smugmug.com a great site but my originals are on my computer, backed up to an external drive and then I back that up onto DVD which I take off site. I'm not trying to rub your nose in this, but to use this bad situation to produce some good.

You could try a download manager like Monica. It allows you to set the log-in and password for downloads, and if you have images named sequentially (ie. pic001.jpg, pic002.jpg) you can do batch input using a "http://host.com/dir/pic[001-100].jpg" string.
