Despite my sig, I've only recently started to explore the possibility of making webpages with Word. I'm just doing a simple personal website, with business card info and a few articles and a resumé. I've got the hang of the basics, but one thing is pissing me off: there seems to be no reliable way of lining up text. The tab key makes different lines end up in different places when it renders on a webpage, even though it looked fine in Word. Using the space bar to line things up is understandably even more hit and miss. Is there any way to sort this out, or do I need a proper web-page creation program?

Uh, no one in their right mind would use Word to create a web page - NO ONE!

I recommend just getting a blog at blogger.com and playing around with their HTML editor until you get the hang of it. Then you could migrate over to TextWrangler or BBedit. Good tutorials at w3schools.com.

Some joker here is going to reply that you need Dreamweaver or some such nonsense. You don't. They are wrong.

i *really* suggest some proper webpage creation program. you don't need something full fledged like go live or dreamweaver, but anything is better than word.

take a look at rapidweaver. i've played around with it and it is not bad at all, especially for $35.

i do all of my coding by hand, so i just use some free text editor, smultron, since it has a, sorta, tabbed interface, but if you don't know html then i suggest going with something like rapidweaver.
