it just sits there being stupid. it looks as if it will open up the .flv file but nothing shows up on the screen except the vlc controller. no error messages eithere.

if it helps i am trying to playback youtube.com files that i downloaded which i am certain are encoded as .flv files. thing is, youtube.com is for streaming video but i figured out a way to download the files from a tip i got off of google.

I have downloaded Youtube files myself (just dragging them from the iCab cache), and have no problems playing them. What VLC version do you have?

hello! i have version 0.8.4. i'm not really too good with computers (above average i would say) and I'm also a new mac user.

can you tell me more about this icab cache trick? sounds similar to what my friend does on his windows machine to grab 'stream-only' intended media files for download.

thanks!

I don't understand why Flash 8 Professional refuses to play them, but I don't think I've tried VLC yet.

I played around with those versions I have and found that only 0.8.1 plays them properly. Both 0.8.2 and 0.8.4 show either nothing or just the first frame and then beachballs.

You can find older version from one of the FTPs at the VLC download page (scroll down).
