In the three years I've had my iMac, I've never opened Mail.app because I've always used Eudora. While Eudora has been working just fine without any problems, I would like to switch to Mail for the greater functionality and nicer interface, etc... But before I make the switch, I have a few questions:
1) Will the import to Mail maintain the organization of emails into subfolders that I currently have set up in Eudora?
2) Someone in another thread recommended using 'Eudora Mailbox Cleaner' to import instead of Mail. Pros? Cons?
3) How long will the import of 85 MB of email take?
4) Is it true that all of my read emails will be marked as unread in Mail after the import?
5) In Mail, if there is more than one account, will the emails of each account be dumped in the same inbox or are the mailboxes and subfolders of each account completely separated from each other?
Thanks.

Importing into Mail won't destroy your existing Eudora mailboxes -- why don't you do the import and see how it turns out, and if it's not satisfactory, try another method?

A few answers:
I imported 300 MB worth of mails into Mail in 2 or 3 hours on a PowerMac G5.
All your mail will be marked as Unread, but you quickly "Select All" and "Mark as Read" to change this.
Mail keeps separate Inboxes for every account.
Good luck! As Tooki says, the process will not destroy your old stuff.

Thanks for the replies. I have added several accounts and I like how the Inbox/Sent/Drafts/etc folders each have subfolders for each account. Under each of these 'master' folders, there is an "On My Mac" subfolder. What exactly is it there for? Is it necessary? Thanks.

My 85 MB also took 3 hours, but maybe that's because my computer is an 800 MHz iMac G4.

When I made this switch years ago, I did it using the standard import method and EMC. EMC is much faster (like, orders of magnitude faster) and also adds all your contacts from the Eudora directory into Address Book (although I think Eudora uses the Address Book now anyway).
I just took at look at the EMC site and there is a special note if you are using Tiger Mail.
As tooki said, just give it a try and you can even use both programs together for a while (depending on the nature of your e-mail account and how you manage the deletion of messages on your server, I suppose).
