When I click on 'Bookmarks' in the menu bar (not to be confused with Safari's Bookmarks Bar) for the first time after launching Safari, a spinning beachball appears for about 30 seconds until the Bookmarks menu finally appears. Each time I click on the Bookmarks menu after that is just fine until I quit and launch it again.

I do have lots of bookmarks, at least several hundred, but could that really be the reason for this 30-second beachball? Does it really take that long for Safari to "load" the bookmarks on each launch?

People say it's the favicon that slows the menu down. They suggest trashing the icon cache and then locking the recreated file (I believe) to keep it speedy. The delay bothers me, but it certainly is not a thirty second delay for me, so I've never been compelled to do anything about it.

Thanks! My machine is only 800 MHz and my ~Library/Safari/Icons folder is 7.9 MB, so that could be the reason for the 30 seconds. Will moving this Icons folder to another location instead of deleting it (in case I want to eventually move it back with its current contents) achieve the same effect as deleting it?
