So, I guess this will be a RapidWeaver type app?

For novice web users, I don't see a need for an html tool to go with the rest of the digital media apps apple puts out. You would think that they'd just enhance .Mac to make for more complex sites. I wonder what this exactly will be... but I'm afraid it's going to spawn an entire generation of cookie cutter blog sites.

But that's the recipe for the novice users. If you're afraid it's going to spawn an entire generation of cookie cutter anything, you're probably deathly afraid right this moment since iDVD has cookie cutter interactive menus, GarageBand has cookie cutter beats, Pages has cookie cutter templates, iPhoto has cookie cutter Photo Book layouts, iMovie has cookie cutter transitions.

That's the whole point of iLife...make a user's life as simple as possible. Most people don't have time to spend writing up HTML code and creating graphic art for their website.

Besides...blog sites and blog programs have already spawned several generations of cookie cutter sites. It's difficult to impossible for the average joe to code up a blog from scratch. Don't act like this iWeb is going to suddenly bring something new and evil to the web.

That's my point. There isn't a need for a program to make these sites - why not just make .Mac better and give it more value? I just don't see the need for an 'iApp' to make simple pages - something .Mac does (at least for photos) already.

Yeah, from what i have read, its an Pages with an improved webpage exporter. So, think web design with the drag and drop and flexibility of Pages. Could be a winner. And if the predictions of being able to customize the website fully to include online business and .com/,org/etc domain name purchasing this could be really interesting. Though I think it is a more robust form of the .Mac cookie-cutter web templates.

We'll find out on tuesday hopefully...

I fit into the iWeb market.

.Mac and iPhoto, etc. are horribly limiting in terms of web page creation, but I don't want to have to run Dreamweaver either. iWeb will be a winner if it's anything like what RapidWeaver seems to be.

I just hope it's not as slow as Pages was when it came out.

All of Apples software is slooow as hell when it first ships. One thing they are not good at is speed optimizations.

I agree. I hate creating web pages from iPhoto. I have recently bought RapidWeaver and it's much easier to use and more powerful than the iPhoto export. And RapidWeaver lets you do so much more than just photo pages.

As long as iWeb (if it is a web creation tool) is not limited for use only with .Mac, then I will certainly be looking seriously at it.

If you want a web editor that's truly WYSIWYG, feels Mac/iLife-like, look no further:

iWeb, if it will come about, will be a Web 2.0 app, think of Blogs and all that crap thats supposed to be the next generation of the Internet. Apple will supply an app that'll do all the hard work and will integrate nicely with .mac for your hosting.

Ok, I can't sell it quite like Steve will.
