Hey guys. I'm selling my mac mini and i want to uninstall office 2004 (student and teacher edition).

i have tried running the "remove office" program in the "remove office" folder. That program puts some files in the trash can and i empty the trash can. but then i can still double click on the program to launch office. it is as if i never uninstalled office.

Also, I have read about the hidden file OfficePID. It has been said that if i delete that file, it will ask for the product key.

my question is this....

why can i still run office when i ran the uninstall program
AND
if i delete the officepid file, can i reuse the product key on another mac? Does microsoft know that i "un-authorized" that computer, freeing up the license i used before?

thanks for your help!

ps - don't worry, i'm not switching away from apple, i'm looking to get whatever is coming out on tuesday. and i want to sell before my system "plummets" in value.

After you ran the "Remove Office" tool, did you restart your machine?

Did the "Remove Office" tool remove the "Microsoft Office 2004" folder from within /Applications? Are you sure you don't have multiple copies installed by chance?

No, the "remove office" tool did not remove the folder from applications.

I am sure i did not install multiple copies. I installed everything (including the OS) on it myself.

I also tried running the "remove office" tool directly off of the Install Office cd just in case the "remove office" program was corrupted.

Odd, very peculiar. Have you tried manually deleting the app folder yourself?

You can simply drag the Microsoft Office 2004 folder to the trash, reboot the machine and then empty the trash.
If you want to be thorough, you can go the Preferences folder and drag the Microsoft folder to the trash and empty it also.
This is essentially a manual un-install. The only thing left are the fonts in your user/Library/Fonts folder, and of course your own data in the User/Documents/Microsoft User Data folder. I would definately delete that (you may want to back it up if you want to use the same data again on another machine).

Enjoy
