I'm quite frusterated with the performance I'm getting on webpages that aren't cached using my G4 optimized (Deerpark) Firefox. I have put the Fasterfox plugin in it, tweaked the pipeline settings, and have lots of ram (1.25gb, Ibook 1.33ghz os10.4.3). I use the same connection as the pc users in my dorm, and their computers seem to still render websites faster. By the fasterfox icon it usually says 4-5 secs, but it seems longer than that.
I don't want to use Safari because it doesn't have enough extensions yet, so what can I do?

Anyway EbErT, seems Safari is your only option then. Sure it lacks the rich extension set Firefox users have gotten used to. Still, my experience is that many of these extensions don't even work on the Macintosh version. Other features can be downloaded as installable extensions, additionally Safari does support the same bookmarklets as Firefox.
So until you upgrade your computer – sorry =)

The other people may be using something better than a 1.3 GHz G4. Anyway, have you tried the normal Firefox release? I've found that sometimes the optimized builds are actually slower for some reason (maybe the code is less optimized — who knows?).

Firefox 1.5 with pipelining enabled is super fast for me. Pages don't load, they seem to 'pop' into view.

Unfortunitly Horsepoo acts like his namesake and is less them helpful here..
Back to the subject at hand - Waht version of Firefox are you running. To be fair, I've never measured the speed.
There's also Omniweb Last time I used it, it seemed decent, give that one a shot.

If Firefox is too slow for him, Omniweb will headshot the poor guy.

Its the g4 optimized release of firefox (1.5). I used to use regular firefox (the version before 1.5 if u need to know) and it has made a slight increase in speed from it, so I changed.
The pc's they are using are NOT better than my mac, much slower in almost all other aspects. 2 that i notice are faster in rendering are Toshiba laptops with celeron processors. All of the extensions I have used so far seem to work great with very few bugs. I just need an explaination of why the pc's render webpages so fast when everything else I've seen them do takes longer than my mac.

Someone explain to the man why PCs render webpages sooooo fast and why everything else he's seen them do takes longer on his Mac...without calling him a troll or other name-callings.
