I just got a powerbook g4 and I put my 128kb MP3's on Itunes. Every 5 or 6 songs I get this repeating glitch that lasts for 1 or 2 seonds and then continues playing normal again. What its doing is taking a small section of audio, repeating it and while it has that first chunk of audio it takes the next small section repeats that and so on so they are overlapping. The audio sections are really small less than one second and the volume increases as its doing its skipping/repeating glitch. So if anyone has had this problem and found a solution I would greatly appreciate some help.

I have a new 15inch powerbook g4 that is having the same problem. Haven't really spent a lot of time trying to debug it yet but I may call Apple about it soon. If so I'll post what I find out.

Your MP3s are probably corrupt.

The MP3s were fine on another computer and iPod. They were recently transferred from the iPod to the new powerbook so maybe they were corrupted. However, I believe some new songs purchased on iTunes are also skipping and I doubt the new music has been corrupted. So I still believe there might be a problem.

Well when it does its glitching thing it doesn't do it at the same track if you play it again so I can't see how it would be a corrupted file issue. Its a very random timed and very annoying thing.

I agree with rsgyde... that is the same behavior that I have been experiencing.

Check if you have any widgets that updates your currently playing song like pearLyrics or any artwork fetchers. That's what did it for me.

If that was the case wouldn't the skipping always be on the same spot on the same track though? My previous computer was a PC. On it none of my MP3's ever skipped. The way I transferred them was by setting up a network between my Powerbook and PC and transferring the info through an ethernet cable. Unless you know for sure about my question I guess the best way to test this is to download some tracks and see what happens.

I have the same problem on my Rev E 15.2" Powerbook

I only listen to podcasts downloaded from iTunes and I get the weird stutter, loop thing.
If I replay the file its fine, and the problem happens on more than 1 podcast for more than 1 source.

Well I downloaded the audion player and I still am having this problem. So I guess it must be the files are corrupted although I have no idea how this could have happened. Maybe this an Apple thing where if you don't buy from the Itunes store it will do this.

It's not iTunes or your mp3s, it's your powerbook.

Take a look at this thread. It seems to be the new 15" Powerbook and the new 17" Powerbook. My new 17" Powerbook has done this about 4 times since I bought it last year.

I have had it do it in Quicktime, iTunes and iChat. I can't figure out why it is doing it, but like I said, 4 times in about 3, or so, months does not bother me.

Hmm okay well I just was on some website listening to a audio sample and you can guess what happened. I am really pissed. "Oh Apples are so much better than PC's" Yeah better for them since they cost twice as much as a comparible PC. Well I'll call up and talk to "Apple Unsupport" for whatever good that does.

Well good news. I talked to Apple Support and this is what they had me do:
1. Go to System Preferences
- Open accounts
-click on login items
remove any speech application and I forgot what other ones but I'm now left with Itunes helper & system events application.
2. Again under System Prefs
- Open speech and disable and turn off speakable items

Anyway Ive listened to a record setting dozen plus MP3 tracks and no glitch so far. I really liked that voice activated command application to. Also they had me shutdown my G4 and hold option, apple,"F" push the power button and while holding the three keys still hold down" O" to start me in something that looked like DOS for PCs Anyway after typing in 3 different reset commands ( sorry I don't remember what they were) that was it. You may not have to do this last thing though to fix your glitching problem.

Well I hope this will be helpful.

Looks like Apple has acknowledged the problem. Check out this link. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302978

Looks like 10.4.5 fixed the problem.

Way to go Apple
