I'm thinking of running a rudimentary webserver off of my OS X machine, just for friends and family. I like that OS X uses Apache which is very powerful, however I want to have more control over it. I'd like to restrict access to a certain range of IPs for example. I'd like to see the activity and logs. I'd like to see if anyone is downloading a file from my webserver at the very moment. Is there a GUI app out there that helps me manage my apache webserver? Thanks

I can't help you with a GUI frontend (and the Apache configuration file is pretty bad), but if you want to see the logs search for a file named access_log.

Is there any webserver GUI freeware out there at all that you recommend? Something that taps into the power of apache?

Is there anything else out there? Mac OS X Apache is so powerful yet so limited.

Yeah, management tools like that are one of the primary distinguishing features of OS X Server.
