I've just noticed that the Final Cut products have been discontinued as individual purchases. Now, you can only get Final Cut Pro, Motion, DVD Studio Pro or Soundtrack Pro by getting the whole Final Cut Studio!

See http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/topquestions.html

They're offering upgrades from Motion et al to Final Cut Studio for $199! And that includes a universal binary when they're available!

I'm vexed about this because I've just ordered Final Cut Express HD. If I'd ordered Motion instead - which is the same price - I could have upgraded to Final Cut Studio at the beginning of February. Does anyone have any advice on what a person without a professional budget should do in this situation?

What's more, it seems to me that a Jam Pack has vanished! There were 4 before Macworld, weren't there? They released a new one - World Music - but there are still only 4 on the Apple Store website! What's going on?

Interesting. I don't see the individual apps (FCP, Soundtrack Pro, Motion) on the Apple store any more. Perhaps some significant upgrades are coming?

If you have a uses for Motion/DVD Studio/Soundtrack, cancel your FCE order and get FCS.

Nope. If you check the link the FAQ says the apps are not EXCLUSIVELY available as a bundle and not separately any longer.

(fixed your typo)

I guess I'm glad I bought my copy of Soundtrack Pro (cheap Edu pricing) a few months ago. I do some occasional audio editing, but have no use for Final Cut Pro or Motion.

Well, that does suck. But the package is a good one though. Nice huge box (weighs more than the iMac-boxed )

Baryon,

Hell, that's a bummer. I'm stoked though. I hadn't read the top questions bit properly. But it means I can upgrade to FCS for £139! Amazing. Or would be if I wasn't so skint. I need to sell some stuff quick.

Baryon,

Just a thought. Return FCE. Get Motion 2, etc from a reseller (must be places with it still in stock) and upgrade in Feb.

Good idea, but how do I know I am eligible for the upgrade in Feb? Might they not give a date range, so that you have to have bought Motion etc between June and January 9 or something?

You wouldn't. But it would be tricky for Apple to know when you had bought it. You could have bought it ages ago and not installed it. The upgrade won't require a sales receipt, just a serial number.

You could probably wait until Feb and check the upgrade details and still find a copy of Motion 2 from a reseller.
