I SOLVED IT ON MY G5!!

I had the same problem. I downloaded the latest driver from the epson site. It says it's the Intel driver but it is actually a universal binary. The first thing I did though was in the printer setup utility which is located in applications>utilities> I reset the printer system the command is located in the file menu. then I reinstalled the driver and it worked fine.
