Both iChat and Adium have been crashing since I installed Tiger. They crash whenever I open a message window and start typing. I have narrowed down the problem to Mac OS X's built in spell checker. I can do this to prevent the programs from crashing:
-Open a message window
-Go to the Menu: Edit > Spelling and then uncheck "Check Spelling as You Type"
-Repeat for every chat tab (at least in Adium)
This leads me to believe that the problem is with the interaction between the spell checking service and these IM programs. Since it happens with multiple IM programs, and both programs get fixed by the same workaround, I am thinking it might be more of a problem with the service itself(??). Anyone experience this problem and/or have any suggestions for how I might try and replace messed up spelling stuff in my system?
