Someone did this powerpoint on a iMac laptop and when we try to open it on a emac, both with the same version of PPt. it give the following error:
PPt. cannot open the file...the file may be in use, corrupt or a type not recognized by PPt.. It is none of the above (well it must be something). It is orange and has the .ppt.

Any thoughts?

Try opening it under another user on the eMac. That will tell you if there is something funny with the preferences within the cureent user's ~/Library. If it opens on one Mac and not on the other, I would suspect the user's Preferences.

We put it on someone's thumb drive and tried it..didn't work, all the emacs are netbooted the same.

Try to open it with NeoOffice (free download from www.neooffice.org). If NeoOffice doesn't open it, either, then it's almost sure the file is really damaged. If NeoOffice opens the file without problems, then your PowerPoint installation is at fault.
