I would like to copy some stuff which is on a DVD to a single CD (compression needed, i think), are there any software let me do that?--I only got Combo drive
thx in advance
There were once four people named Everybody, Somebody, Nobody and Anybody. Somebody had to do a job, but Nobody wanted to do it. Nobody could see that Anybody could do it, and Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job. Nobody ended up doing it, and it so happened that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Well, it is going to be impossible to fit the whole DVD stuff into a single CD-ROM, it is >4GB versus >700MB. But you can do burn it to several CDs. Sounds annoying but Toast 7 can help you.

thx, but there is no trial version of toast that i can try--.hate buying Software without a try
And i was thinking can i convert the DVD to different format e.g. Divx, which will bring down the size of the DVD to around 600-700MB without loss too much quality, and fit it into a CD?
I am not sure at this stage which should i do, so any comment is welcomed
thanks

i have tried the program that just mentioned above, and i have some questions :
(1) I found if i am going to encode a DVD movie to MP4, it took about the same time as the movie, which is kind of painful to me, therefore, are there any program can reduce the encoding time?
(2) What is your settings when u rip a DVD?
thx guys!!!!

If you are getting real time encoding; i.e. it is encoding at the same speed as if you were watching the movie, that it good. Some systems will encode MUCH slower than that. When people (and I) got the new intel iMacs, people were reporting 'wow, the imac rips with handbrake in real time', so im afraid thats as fast as it is gunnaa get with reasonalable quality
iMac Core Duo 1.83 Ghz | 1.25GB RAM | 160HD, MacBook Core Duo 1.83 Ghz | 13.3" | 60HD | 1.0GB RAM

Video encoding/re-encoding is very computationally demanding. Don't expect blazing speed. Takes my dual 2.5GHz G5 about 35 minutes (with a dual-processor-aware application) to encode a DVD movie to a low-bit rate .m4v for my iPod.

One more thing i would like to ask in this thread, i have converted the DVD stuff to MPEG, e.g. moive.mpg, but the quicktime cannot play it, why? Should i install something else to let quicktime has the ability to play MPEG stuff, thx

the "MPEG Streamclip" application can help you.

I would have converted to MPEG4/H.264 with AAC sound. That way you get the best quality and QuickTime can play it just fine (provided you have a rather recent Mac).
