I had previously bought a song from iTunes and recently the artist came out with an album. The album also contains the song I had previously downloaded. If I already have the song, does iTunes still download the song I already have from the album or can it selectively not download the one song I already have?

I'm just guessing, but I'm fairly sure it will download the entire album.

If you're buying an entire album, then you're generally getting the songs for less than $0.99 apiece, so you might as well download the songs you already have and delete them. If it happens to be one of those albums that's priced so that you're still paying $0.99 a song, you can just download the songs you don't have to save a little money.
