iTunes 6.0.2 (and it's predecessors) slow down my system, and I've had it crash on me a number of times recently - everything will freeze up, sometimes the song will keep playing, sometimes it won't, and I'll have to restart because nothing else will respond. I tried clearing the cache, but it still happens. Three times it's corrupted my library, requiring a rebuild. Now, I'm on an iBook G4 with only 256 MB of RAM; I assume that running out of memory is the correct assessment here. Am I right?

That could very well be the case, but it's hard to know for sure. If you can afford to, it would be good to get yourself some more memory even if it's not the cause; 256 MB is not a very comfortable amount of RAM for OS X (at least with Panther and Tiger).
