I don't get this. Right now, safari is fine. But when I hit 'quote' on macnn, for some reason typing becomes unbearingly laggy, and my load increases dramatically, even while doing nothing in the reply box. For insance, if I were to quote myself by hitting 'quote' after I posted this, I would be taken to a page where I could type what I wanted to post, but everything is EXTREMELY slow. I opened activity monitor and hit 'back' to go back to a thread I was in, then hit forward to go back into 'quote' somebody mode. Then I hit back and forth a few times. Here's my CPU load:

The almost zero load is most of the time on macnn. The huge spikes are whenever I am just 'viewing' the 'quoting' page. I wasn't even typing.

ALSO, whenever I try to upload images to photobucket using safari it doesn't work. It just keeps loading and loading and loadin and never uploads anything. Camino works fine. WTF apple.

I think you may have a RAM problem. Safari does use a lot of resources, but it should not do what it's doing for you. Unless, of course, your RAM is being weird. You could try reseating it to make sure it's in there properly. Really. Thermal stresses sometimes help things like DIMMs work out just a tad, and that can lead to odd memory problems like this.

Sometimes the Windows way of solving problems works quite well.

I hate Safari on 10.4. It's buggy and crashy (for me), and -- I don't know if this is unique to me or not -- white text on a black background always seems bold and clunky from the antialiasing. Sometimes I think about going back to 10.3 just for stable browsing.

K. It's doing it again. I enabled quartz extreme 2d the other day. I think I'm going to disable it.

1. In Preferences/Autofill, uncheck Other forms.
2. Empty Cache.
3. Delete your favicons cache and make the folder 'Read Only.'
4. If things are still slow, reset Safari...

Apple disabled Quartz 2D Extreme for a reason. Besides the stability and graphics problems it also slows down Safari significantly. I don't see why anybody would want to enable it at this stage.

So they can waste other people's time with their complaints about things that don't work right.

I wonder if this is an issue with MacNN.

My G4 sometimes slowed to a crawl on MacNN when responding to a post. And it's only with MacNN. I haven't really noticed it lately though.

I do not have Q2DE enabled.

MacNN is one of the few sites to bog down my Safari too. I think it's to do with those horrible flash ads they use. I dont mind flash ads except when they screw with your CPU. I'm going to re-install flash 7 too. Flash 8 is a POS, it keeps making ads jitter when I scroll and it steals my cursor.

If you remove flash altogether, you get much more friendly gif images on MacNN.

I agree that you shouldn't have enabled Quartz 2D. People were told quite clearly not to re-enable it.
