Does your Mac fulfill the system requirements for Google Earth?
Does Console.app say anything when you try to launch Google Earth?

So when you say "nothing happens" I assume you also don't get a message in Console.app, right?

You mean it's bouncing and beachballing? If so, use Activity Monitor.app to sample it (View->Sample Process). Maybe that gives you a hint where it hangs.

Even if the machine is less than a year old, it may still be running Panther 10.3, whereas you need Tiger 10.4 - check apple menu, about this mac. You also need an active broadband connection with the ability to connect to the Google Earth servers.

No, it's not a common fault.
Do exactly as follows - launch the following application: /Applications/Utilities/Console.app
Then launch the GoogleEarth App.
Then look in the console - post what is logged there.

No, there is no way to upgrade to 10.4 without paying. Except for crime. You could always steal it, or murder someone for it.

The real answer is - Yes! You just click on the System preference - Software Update to update your system to the latest version of 10.3. -- 10.3.9 whcih runs the latest version of Google Earth just fine.

Quoted for truth. You're good to run Google Earth.
