Yes, 90% don't do it. This isn't the Windows world where piracy is rampant.

You seem to need it for Google Earth only. Google Earth is a nice app, but it's by no means essential. If you can't afford Tiger right now, you can use maps.google.com online for the time being, which is kind of similar.
