How do you guys like the new 1.5.0.1 so far? Seems okay to me on my Mac. But has crashed several times on the PC.

On the PC, it was a bit of a memory hog, didn't seem to want to release memory as tabs were closed. But I'm loving it on Tiger.

i finally got around to installing firefox and i have to say that i wish i had done it earlier. safari renders pages pretty quickly but firefox is a step above safari. also safari has been choking on quite a few pages wher firefox doesnt for ex.: http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content...HC1-Review.htm

firefox also fixed the bug where macromedia flash videos would stutter if you opened up a second safari window and shifted focus to it. flash video only ran smoothly if the window was active.

i heard somehting about memory leaks in firefox so i'll keep an eye out for that but otherwise i'm really happy with firefox.

It's been fine. It's slower than Safari on this Mac, however. I make use of it for some browsing because of features added by extensions.

I've been using it as my main browser for the last couple of days and I have to say that I like it a good deal. I have one of the 1.5.0.1 versions with OSX native widgets (like in Camino), and I have installed the Spellbound extension that has spellcheck-as-you-type; those two things, plus a number of other cool extensions, plus its speed, make this a real contender for me.

It is a pity that they have not corrected the error introduced in v1.5 whereby if you click on an rss feed in a toolbar, the feed articles drop down but you cannot ctrl-click (right click) on an article and get a choice of what you want to do (open in existing tab / open in new tab / open in new window etc).

I assume that the memory leak has been corrected. This used ALL of avaliable CPU resources whilst you had the mouse busson down and text selected in a firefox window.

I used it for a bit - then decided to go with Camino.

I have been using Safari 24/7 since Tiger.

I'm undecided on Firefox - there are lots of small things that annoy me. Things liek new windows being to the side and lower, as opposed to just to the side, also lots of the not really an OS X app things and interface stuff annoy me.
I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.

FYI: If you want Omniweb 5 style tabs for firefox - get the "Tab Sidebar" extension.

Not to turn this into Camino VS Firefox - but speed wise how similar are they? I assume they use the same version of Gecko (well the nightlies at least)?
I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.

The interface is bad. I've been trying to find a way to unify the toolbar, but no luck - it looks so old fashioned with a conventional window.

How did you get spellbound to install? All the information I can find says it doesn't work with 1.5.

I don't like it. Camino is a much better friend of my Mac.

I do prefer Camino, and will probably go back to it once they add some autofill. I also like the feature in Safari/Shiira and Firefox with the extension, to search in any search engine you have any word you right click on. Really miss that in Camino.

I love the dictionary popup in the webkit browsers though. I find myself constantly fighting myself as to which browser I prefer. If webkit worked well with Gmail I would use those.

I'm using it just fine with 1.5.0.1. Here's the link:

maybe a bit OT, but I like the latest Opera very much. at least from my limited experience, it is the only that works well as emulating IE when entering some sites. I did use firefox for a while but have gone back to Safari. I will be using Opera a bit more and see how long it will stay.

I haven't been able to get FF running on my machine. It shows up in the dock then dies. If it starts at all, it is flaky at best - many times I can't access any text fields.

Most of the time I use Camino, with one big gripe: it won't open new pages in tabs by default. For example, a link posted on this forum automatically calls "_blank" which pops a new window. Aren't we past new windows by now? All of these should go to tabs. Opera has it right, but I have other issues with Opera which send me back to Camino.

Anyway, back OT.... FF is a great app on the PC, and if it worked at all on my Mac I'd probably be using it. Of course, I am still running 10.3 so maybe that explains it.

I am using 1.0rc1 on an intel core duo imac, and I customized the toolbar with "Fill Form" which uses your address book data.

Camino is an absolutely beautiful app on the core duo. Full time browser, and I love the interface - very clean, Safari looks 'bulky' in comparison.

Just got home and tried it. It doesn't open in new windows anymore, but neither does it open in new tabs - it just uses the same window. Oh well, closer but still not ideal.

I like it, they've fixed quite a few of the memory leaks.
After 4 days I'm only at ~350MB instead of ~1.2GB.
