I can not use Schwab's Streetsmart.com trading tools. It was working a month ago but then stopped.
I have worked with their tech support on three occassons.
They have concluded there is a problem with osx/java and their software for macs but they have no time line for a fix.

Hey koshka,
I recently signed up with Schwab and I am also unable to use streetsmart.com website. I have a new intel-based IMAC, but I'm not certain if the problem is with the intel chip or with the tiger 10.4.5 OS and/or Safari 2.0.3. Are you also using an intel-based apple, or some other machine such as G3, G4, G5?

I have a G4 -450 running Tiger 10.4.6 with latest java/safari updates. I am ethernetted to a router but have also tried direct connection to my cable modem. I am also unable to run SS.com. Did either of you ever get it to work? My OS X installation is 'virgin'- the only non apple software I have installed is Schwab's Velocity (which works insconsistently) and Stuffit.
Schwab has been telling me every time I CALL THEM that it is one of their highest priorities to figure out why certain Macs don't work for StreetSmart pro. They have been telling me that since January '06. However, they NEVER called me back on any of the support 'tickets' they wrote until after they received a letter from me requesting they issue me a stock certificate for a sizeable chunk of my account.
Now they are saying they can't duplicate the problem in their lab so they can't do anything about it. Wish that had been the story from the beginning- I would have allocated some technology $$$ differently.
My son has an iMAC (g4 800 mhz) upstairs connected wirelessly to the same router. As far as I can determine, we are running the exact same software- all the same browser pluggins, java settings, network setting, etc. and SS.com works fine on his box. The only difference (other than the obvious differences in hardware) that I can come up with is that I have a legacy OS 9.2.2 for my 'classic' and his is the 'classic' that came installed as part of the OSX that was on the machine new. But plenty of other SS.com users must also have legacy OS 9's
Any other ideas?

I was thinking about going with Street Smart Pro because of the Mac compatibility but ultimately decided on Fidelity Active Trader instead. It's unfortunate but important to know that even if I had gone with Schwab I may not have gotten compatibility with its Java applet. I'm sure you guys have tried Firefox and Camino in addition to Safari, right?

One of the suggestions from Schwab tech support was to try Firefox. Unfortunately, Streetsmart.com is only compatible with one earlier version of Firefox -you flunk Schwab's 'system test' fro SS.com with anything later than Firefox 1.0. I was unable to discover any way to get anything but the current vrs (1.5.3, if I recall) from the Mozilla website. This is a classic example of the kind of 'you can't get here from there' suggestions I am getting from Schwab tech support.
