recent switcher, LOVE os x, but some of the apps provided by Apple bug me, so i need feedback on alternative ones that might be better.

1. ical. I really like the conept of this app and it's really usefull, but the interface really bugs me for some reason. i don't like it at all. is there any 3rd party app that uses ical's database but a completely seperate interface? i wish you could at least change the color scheme in ical. or maybe there are themes?

2. activity monitor. what's the coolest/most useful alternative to this utility? i'd something that is more streamlined.

You could try even-t. It's now free and works with iSync, just like iCal.

Which colours don't you like in iCal? If it's the event colours (the only colours I can think of other than grey), you can change these by clicking on the event category on the left, then modifying the colour in the drawer on the right.

In fairness, Menumeters provides a very different service that Activity Monitor doesn't even attempt. Activity Monitor also does provide a lot of detailed app-specific information that isn't accessible through Menumeters.

2. If you're a Unix guy (or not a Unix guy, it doesn't really matter ), open up Terminal and type 'top' and hit enter. Does basically the same thing as Activity monitor.
