I have finally completed my first torrent download of a TV show, but have now discovered that Quicktime cannot play it. QT says I may need a plug in?

The file ends in .avi - what kinf of file is this, and how do I play it on my PB?

Any help much appreciated,

Thanks

you can download VLC from here

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/14738

It'll play most movie files, also in full screen if you don't have QT Pro.

There are some codecs you can add to QT to allow you to play avi files - i'm not on my main machine at the moment, so no links sorry. maybe someone else can supply them?

Divx and Xvid are probably two of the more popular codecs. Download the installers and you'll probably be able to watch the file. There are some others out there you may need but I'd say those two will cover about 70% of the stuff out there.

Uhm. I don't think there are any binaries at Xvid.org...
