I got a new FW drive b/c my music collection has grown so large not only from MP3's, but also from my DVD's that I have encoded for my ipod. Well over 56GB on a 15" powerbook with a 100gb Harddrive.

So I get my firewire drive and just dump the entire itunes directory (XML files included) onto the firewire. Big mistake, I should of used the export command to load my playlists and music over to the firewire drive.

What to do? I did it once b4 to where I did the same thing a few years on my G5, and for the life of me, I cannot rememver how. Mu old roommate worked for MYV in NYC in their IT department and showed me how.

So the question is....How do I import my files back in itunes and get all my custom playlists back?

Any help appreciated,

Anthony

Just copy the iTunes directory back into your music folder. Nothing else.

If you copied ~/Music/iTunes over to [FireWire]/

then

you can copy [FireWire]/iTunes/ back to ~/Music

and just open iTunes. Everything will be as it was. I have done this every time I upgrade the System and do a clean install, or when I've replaced hard drives. XML and playlists are included in the iTunes folder.

I'm not sure I understand the problem altogether. If you want to get just the playlists and keep the music on the FW drive then just copy the iTunes Library and the .xml file and put it in ~/Music/iTunes/

or if you want to have the entire music on the FW and the music library files, then choose File>Preferences and Advanced (in iTunes) and choose the location where your iTunes folder is now.

cheers
