As an example, let's say I buy a domain named www.mightymouse.com and I want to use my iWeb software to develop my own webpage can I do it? Or I would have to buy .mac, upload to .mac then buy a domain? I am really confused on how this all works. I am opening a Mortgage Broker Business and I need my own domain, I don't want to use .mac....Any ideas? Thanks in advance...

PS: Where can I buy a webspace(domain) for cheap?

Buy an account at dreamhost.com for $8/mo with a free domain registry, and then point iWeb to ftp to dreamhost instead of .Mac.

The $8 a month is for hosting while the $8 a year is for domain name registration.

How to set up a website:

1. Get a domain name, e.g. www.mightmouse.com
2. Get a hosting company e.g. GoDaddy or DreamHost, etc.

What was confusing to me was that alot of these companies can be your "host" AND register you for a domain name too! I just did mine with GoDaddy.

<Goes to check my receipt> For $11.44 I got my domain name for 2 years. For $66.36, GoDaddy will be my "host" for 2 years. So for $77.80 (or $38.90/year) to have my own domain name and a host company. Not bad at all. GoDaddy was my choice since it was the least expensive and this review here and here about them were good.

The webhosts that I use charge only $3.95 per month for hosting and you get a free domain name, so it is about half the price of the ones mentioned here. I have about a dozen sites hosted with them , am really happy with their customer support and have been with them for a few years now.

Please let me know if you would like the details,

Thanks

IX Webhosting

Like I said before - their customer service is excellent - they even have a live chat help line. And I think they have the best prices out there.

Lots of the Companys who will give you a 'Free Domain' with your hosting, or offer it super cheep. usually have a REALLY poor record when it comes to moving the domain to another host, if you ever become disatisfied. You usualy find that they have set them selves up as the 'Admin' contact making it very dificult to move without lots of cooperation from them.

Second this...stay away from the el cheapo companies (and BTW, I have several clients who have had horror stories about GoDaddy). See the WebDev forum for lots of opinions on domain registration and hosting.
I do not like those green links and spam.
I do not like them, Sam I am.

Just bought a domain name from godaddy a few days ago. Now I need to get some hosting from them as well. Just wondering if anyone has the quick step-by-step of buying hosting services from godaddy to posting my content from iWeb. I see that you can 'publish to a folder', but then what do I do with the folder? Thanks!
