It sucks that even in 1.1, Aperture's tethered shooting is still not integrated (just an Automator thingie). True tethered shooting (without having to purchase Nikon Capture first) is something I'd love to see.

I thought tethered shooting can just be scripted, no? Mind you I agree, it's stupid: It should be integrated so that shooting is imported directly into specific Aperture projects. It's only obvious.

Plus, where are the vignetting correction and chromatic aberration correction? From the sounds of it, the new included CA correction is something complete different.

Still, if the hype is true, this is a major upgrade over 1.0.1. Now here's hoping for 1.2...

I don't use tethered shooting so its not big deal that its not in there as tightly as tookie wants. I do like the feature list that is being bandied about. I saw a number of posts/threads over at dpreview.com and it looks like apple was listening to their customers.

This is definitely good news because I was comparing the feature list and workflow of Aperture vs. LR. While LightRoom is still in beta, I like the conversion and editing tools that it provided over aperture. What Aperture had better was the workflow.

Since March is almost upon us, I eagerly wait for the update

While it is understandable that direct plug, shoot, and import into Aperture is preferable, tehtered shooting using the Aperture Hot Folder script is not that big of a deal -- is it? The results are the same and the Nikon software is not very expensive. According to the Nikon website, the full software package can be purchased from the Nikon Mall. The suggested price for Nikon Capture is US$99.

The Aperture Hot Folder script is free for download at: http://automator.us/aperture/

It also works with Canon EOS software too. Just FYI.

That's a kludge, exactly what I want to avoid. I don't want to have to run Nikon Capture ($100 is not something I have to throw around after buying Aperture and a Nikon DSLR), and even then, I want one integrated solution, not a cobbled-together thing.

Yeah, I got the same email. At first I was all excited thinking that Aperture 1.1 was out. Rereading the email, it states that the ub version of aperture will run faster, not that its availabl. I do think this email jumped the gun, but perhaps 1.1 is coming out soon, well it better be soon there's only a few days left in March

Aperture 1.1—the first Universal version of Aperture—offers increased computer and camera compatibility. The upgrade allows photographers to run Aperture on both PowerPC-based and the new Intel-based Macintosh computers, including MacBook Pro.

Developed in consultation with pro photographers, Aperture 1.1 — scheduled for release in April — will be available for $499. Current owners of Aperture 1.0 can upgrade to Aperture 1.1 via Software Update. In addition to enhanced compatibility, Aperture 1.1 also provides a variety of significant performance and feature enhancements.

AI claims "middle of April".

I guess I really should just order the iMac now, but I'll look bad if we get the iMac and it's just sitting there doing nothing for weeks.

(I would look even worse if we got the Core Duo iMac and Aperture didn't run on it at all... but I doubt that'd happen.)

A word from Apple about the release date...(just posted this on Apple's website, too)

I know many of you are very anxious to start using 1.1 and I sincerely apologize for the delay in getting it to you. I can assure you that we are VERY close to finalizing this release, but we simply felt it was very much in the best interests of our customers to slightly extend the testing period.

Feedback from our preview showings and from our beta seed group has been really helpful and we want to deliver the best update we can.

Thanks for your patience.

10.4.6 adds Nikon D200 and Canon 30D RAW support. It also fixes the EXIF bug for Aperture TIFF exports. Aperture is still at 1.0.1 though.

I will check out if Aperture speed has changed once I install 10.4.6 on my main machine.
