While browsing through the Adobe web site, I found this little tidbit about Lightroom (which I assume is their Aperture killer):

"Note: Although initially available as a beta for Macintosh, Lightroom will later support both the Windows and Macintosh platforms. Sign-up to be notified when the Windows version becomes available."

Usually, it's the other way around. I thought that was kind of interesting.

Competing products on the Mac, none on Win, so it makes sense to release the Mac version first to prevent being locked out of the market by marketshare.

Looks like Adobe just needs a little fire under it's a**. Here's to hoping Apple has something that appears* to rival some of the CS apps so they get universal binaries out faster.

*I say appears because making a full PS or Illustrator replacement would be a long process, but I could see them presenting one that could be threatening enough to get the moving.

Maybe for a couple reasons:

1) Apple has Aperture, which is in Lightroom's space. If Adobe waited another 6 months to get the beta out there, they would lose HUGE market share on the Mac. There's no such danger on the PC yet, as there's no Aperture equivalent there. Yay Apple!

2) I hear Lightroom wants to leverage some Vista technologies on the Windows side. Maybe not require Vista, but use some things that aren't in Windows just yet. As such, they're waiting for them (I'd have to guess it would be an XP service pack) before they throw a beta out there.

Nevertheless, the message is pretty clear: If you want to use the BEST photographic tools, you really have no choice but to use a Mac
