Can someone recomend me a good program to set as default opener for my pictures?

Something like acdsee or infanview for Windows. A freeware or shareware one would be nice.

I have some pictures at pretty high resolutions (1600*1200 or 1280*1024) and when I open them the preview is opening them like a sort of large thumbnail. I really hate this. Usually it happens with the wallpapers I download using right click in safari and "save image....."

In Preview preferences change the Image>Respect image DPI for "Actual Size" setting. The images must have a high dpi which will cause them to appear smaller than their pixel dimensions would suggest they should.

It doesn't allow me to browse other images in the same folder within the application -- in Irfanviewe i just pres forward or back on my keyboard and next image in the same folder opens.

Just to clarify, open a folder select all and right (control) click, then choose slideshow...

Use the controls at the bottom of the screen.

I bet Irfanviewe can't do that.
