just got a macbook pro and want to transfer everything from my existing tibook, however the tibook was originally running os9 and still has it as classic and i know the intelmacs don't run classic...so will migration assistant transfer all the files for classic as well. These files would be unnecessary system clutter and i don't want them on the new machine?

thanks
Macbook Pro 1.83ghz, 1.5gb RAM
and old Tibook 550mhz, 256 mb RAM

Migration Assistant does not work with OS9, you have to transfer the files manually.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

The Migration Assistant transfers your user account(s) to a new machine. OS 9 had no (or at least not "really") a concept of user accounts. So Migration Assistant can't migrate nothing.

Connect your existing TiBook via Firewire and boot it into Taget Disk Mode. Now you can simply copy your existing documents (Word, PDFs, images, movies) into the documents folder of your new user account (which you created on your MacBook) yourself.
If you want to migrate e-mail it is easiest if you have an IMAP account and put all your mails online on OS 9, then connect to the IMAP account with Mail in OS X. Then just keep all mails online or copy to a local folder again if you wish.

Uh, I think you guys misunderstood the OP.

He is running OS X.

The Migration Assistant will copy over all the files on the disk, even ones not in the OS X user folders.

I think you are out of control, tooki. This guy wants to migrate from OS 9 to OS X and you are moving this thread into the Applications forum?!

The OP said the TiBook originally had OS 9, and it is still there as Classic.

That said, the OP would probably be better off transferring those files manually.

Come again? You'd best check your facts before you make outrageous accusations.

1. You didn't read the OP carefully. He's already running OS X.
2. This thread has not been moved at all. There is no edit history for this thread, nor is there a redirect for this thread in OS X or anywhere else.
