newset security update and safari beachballs

I'm pretty sure it happened just after downloading the newest security patch, but now after using safari for a few minutes it stalls with the beachball, and will not force quit for the longest time. Further, my ibook 800 won't stop cycling, forcing a restart. Firefox works fine.

Any suggestions? Used disk utility but no help. Would the new diskwarrior update be worth it?
