I'm trying to archive my iPhoto library onto a DVD. There was over 7.5GB in my library so I highlited several albums and copied them onto a DVD no problem. I checked the burned DVD and verified the albums when I put it back in and it copied them fine. The last folder I'm trying to download says it has 2.4GB of memory, but when I put in the blank DVD, it says I have over 4.7GB and the disk is full and won't let me download it. I erased all the photos I previously downloaded in the other albums, erased all the albums so the only thing remaining is the album I want to copy onto the DVD. I also deleted the trash and looked all over for a cache to delete but couldn't find one.

Does anyone have any ideas why my iPhoto library would say I have 2.4 GB and the DVD burning says I'm trying to burn over 4.7 GB? Thank you.

americanuck:

What iPhoto is reporting is just the size of the image files that are represented by the thumbnails in the library. The finder is reporting those files as well as the thumbnails, modified files, data and database files. There is a lot of overhead in the library. When burning to disk you'll have to estimate on the low side (if it's only part of the library) in order to make sure you have enough room. This is an issue that many of us have reported and asked changed thru the iPhoto feedback page: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html. Take the time to place a report/bug also. The more reports the better the chance it'll get addressed.

Thanks Old Toad. I submitted the following bug report:

iPhoto reports a memory usage of 2.4 GB in my library. When I go to burn it to a disk, it says I exceed the 4.7 GB capacity. Where is the extra 2.3 GB coming from. I don't want to lose any photos and I don't want to split this folder in two just to put it onto a disk if I can avoid it.
