My Handspring Visor no longer synchs with my G5 iMac - I downloaded the latest drivers but is the Visor just too old?

It believe it should still be possible to sync it with your PowerMac G5. Be sure to download the correct version of Palm Desktop ("4.0 for Visor Prism", not 4.2.1 or something, which is incompatible).
I don't know if there are problems installing this older version in Tiger, if you cannot install it, post here again, I guess we would find a workaround.

When you have installed it, follow these instructions (copied from a post by scotty321 on macosxhints):
...use the Terminal application by typing these strings listed below this example - substituting your short user name - as shown below:

sample: "sudo chown -R <shortusername>:admin /Applications/Palm"

actual: "sudo chown -R michaellafferty:admin /Applications/Palm

…where michaellafferty is the <shortusername>. Be sure to pay attention to the spaces in each string, and the direction of the / or \ [forward and back slash] characters.

Here are the appropriate Terminal entries:

sudo chown -R <shortusername>:admin /Applications/Palm [NOTE: at this point, you'll be asked to enter your login password]
sudo chmod -R 775 /Applications/Palm
sudo chown -R <shortusername>:admin /Library/Application\ Support/Palm\ HotSync/
sudo chmod -R 775 /Library/Application\ Support/Palm\ HotSync/
sudo chown -R <shortusername>:admin /Library/Application\ Support/Palm\ Desktop/
sudo chmod -R 775 /Library/Application\ Support/Palm\ Desktop/

Again, pay particular attention to the spaces and to the \ characters, as both are critical to the syntax of these commands. Remember to place your actual shortusername in the string where the <shortusername> placeholder is shown, as in the sample above. [Do not include the < and > characters.]
Then open iSync, and enable the Palm Synchronization (there's a command for that in one of menus). Finally, open Palm Desktop, go to "Conduit settings", choose the iSync conduit and check "enable iSync for this device".

Now you should be able to sync your Visor to Address Book and iCal again.

As you suspected, it did not install. I tried several times. Ideas?

What exactly happens if you try to install the application? On my Mac there were no problems during installation.

You get an error during installation, don't you? Or does it install, but then it doesn't work?

If it's just the installation that's making problems, I'll try to create a custom installer and mail that to you if you send me a private message with your e-mail address.

I get the same issue when I try to install Palm Desktop 4.0 that I downloaded from the Palm site. It gets almost through installing and hangs up on the same spot everytime. It tells you that there was a problem installing, would you like to quit or try reinstalling. This is very frustrating, any help would be appreciated.

I am having the same problem with the install hanging. Tried custom install based on message in another thread. Iinstalled the Palm Desktop no problem. Hotsync gets almost to the end, then gives a message that things failed and do I want to try again. The other thread said that they just kept doing it and it finally installed, but no success here after about 20 or more trys.

When I try to run Hotsync (Icon is in applications, I get a message "The application "HotSync Manager" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "4<HotSync Manager><HotSync Manager><HotSyncLib.PPC>". I found a an item in the Palm Mac support knowledge base http://kb.palmone.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/W...)#shared_error which says this indicates something about OS X archive and install. It's greek to me.

Any help or workaround would be appreciated.
