I know that the UB version of FCP is coming out at the end of this month, but this proved useful for me, so it might for you too.

FCP isn't supposed to run on intel hardware (yet) due to it not being supported in Rosetta, but I really really needed to use it on my iMac, just for capturing (the editing would be done at school on a PPC PM). So I got the install disc, and installed Final Cut Pro 5. I was shocked when it worked, and it doesn't seem half slow. Perfectly fine for capturing DV footage, though im sure there will be noticable slowdowns when doing editing and encoding stuff.

This really helped me out, as I have 40 mini-DV tapes (each with 30 mins on them) to capture by Friday, and the main Mac I use for editing is at school, so obviously I cannot capture in the evenings. SO I brought home the LaCie 1TB HD we use, and I am now capturing to that. Wonderful!

awesome news! at least basic capturing works fine. what settings were you using though? Im just curious if that might have anything to do with it working or not.

If you mean capture settings, then I am using standard def DV PAL, standard settings. I tried playing one of the captured files in the viewer window, and it played fine with no stutter. I also did a couple of real quick chops on the clips, just cutting out the middle section of a clip in the timeline, and it seemed t work fine

Yeah, it works in Rosetta, but it isn't "supported." Not entirely sure what that means. It sounds like it's generally OK, but there's some specific part of the program that doesn't work properly. That's the impression that I've gotten (e.g., I read an early report where Apple thought FCP worked, but then later they changed it to "runs but not supported").

I guess there might be a couple transitions or filters that dont work properly, so that makes it "unsupported"
