Is there any way to force Toast 7 to burn at a slower speed? I've started having problems with coasters lately, perhaps due to a bad batch of DVDs (Ritek G05 printable). When I had a similar problem with older media in an older drive, I just dropped the write speed. But Toast 7 doesn't show me anything except "best" speed. Toast Help and the Roxio forums are worthless.

That's strange. I have "Best Speed" as well as slower speeds for Toast 7.

However, it depends on the drive and disks. For my Maxell branded Ritek G05 disks in my Pioneer 110 drive it gives me 4X, 6X, 8X. For the same disks in my Pioneer K04 drive it gives me 4X and 8X only.

What is your drive? Perhaps "Best" is the slowest it's spec'd in the firmware already anyway? eg. 4X maybe? My drives will not give me a 2X option for this media.

P.S. Ritek G05 isn't the greatest media. I burn my Maxell branded Ritek G05 at 4X, regardless of the batch and regardless of the drive. The media simply is not reliable at 8X.

Do you not get a choice when you hit the big red "burn" button? When you hit burn, you should get a slide-down window with a host of options -- one of which is a pop-up menu with a variety of speeds.

Even though I have the option, the drive always burns at 8x minimum regardless of what I actually pick, unless I use 24x which it also burns at. It only has 2 speeds in hardware it seems.
