Hey there thanks for clicking. I love getting help from the super brain!
Does anyone know of a way to get your hotmail account to be used in apples "mail" application. I'v got gmail running through mail and its great I love it. I'd love it even more if I didnt havt to open a browser to see my hotmail mail. And as well: How can you switch between emails in mail. ex. I hav 2 gmail accounts. Mail from both accounts show up in the exact spot. I cant differentiate where each email came from untill I open it up and see which it was sent to. Any help?

You need an addon for Mail to do it - I don't use it myself (no need for it) but I think what you are after is MacFreePOPs

Also, since you're new I'll point out a couple things:

1 - Mail is an Application, so you should have asked this in the Applications forum

2 - try searching first before starting a new thread as this question has been asked more than a couple times in the past

Never heard of MacFreePOPs before, very interesting. Does anybody else have any experience in getting Hotmail to successfully work using this application within Mail?

I use MacFreePOPs for exactly that purpose - it works great. I would never know that my hotmail account wasn't a regular POP account. You have to add MacFreePOPs to your startup items list, though, as it doesn't do so automatically.

There is also httpmail plug-in for Mail which lets you access your hotmail account.

I don't have hotmail so no idea how well it works or whether it is better/worse than MacFreePOPs (which I too had never heard of before this thread).

I use the httpmail plug-in. Works great with the 2 Hotmail accounts I have. Quite a number of options in it, but once it's set-up, works pretty good. On occasions it will falter when sending mail, but on the second attempt it usually goes - but that kind of problem is pretty rare fore me.

The httpmail plug-in stated I needed to upgrade my Hotmail account before it could pull down the mail, so I ditched that.

gradient: Can you tell me exactly how you set-up your Hotmail account within Mail using MacFreePOPs? Will it pull down all existing mail in folders and everything that you have within Hotmail, or just new stuff moving forward after everything is set-up?

Nah, hhtpmail works on ordinary (free) Hotmail accounts. That's all I have and does the job. Might be the way it's set-up, can be quirky.

Reading the reviews at MacUpdate, many people are having the same problem with needing to upgrade their MSN Hotmail accounts before the plug-in will work. I think it depends on how old your Hotmail account is and when you initnially started to use the plug-in if it'll work or not.

Yeah, that could be it. Both my accounts are fairly old, well before MS started blocking clients like Outlook Express from downloading mail.

Does the other plug-in get around this?

It sounds like it; however, I am waiting to hear how others have got their Hotmail accounts working successfully with it.
