hi,

i'm successfully ripped a dvd into those 2 folders (audio_TS & video_TS)

but before i burn it onto a disc (which i do easily w/toast)

what program can i use to edit the original movie, if any such program will let me, that is

i don't appear to be able to do it in imovie, idvd or toast

what i really want to do is edit out the feature and just retain some of the extras (toast won't let me do that)

so, is there a technique i'm unaware of that will allow me to edit or keep certain parts of the original before burning to a disc via toast?

thanks much!

btw, there may not really be an answer to this. i thought maybe some miracle software came down the pike recently or something, or some technique i'm not aware of. but what i do know suggests this may not be do'able, or certainly not w/o a lot of extra (real time) type work/editing

Re-rip, choosing only the parts you want, with MacTheRipper.

You can actually replace the .vob files you don't want using an empty file with the same name.
It may screw the menus up, and depending on your DVD player it could potentially crash it. With mine it just turns black for a second then goes back to the menu.

try it out with a DVD-RW

to actually edit the movie itself (as opposed to removing a "DVD extra") you would have to re-encode the video into DV or something.
You can take the dude out of So Cal, but you can't take the dude outta the dude, dude!

unfortuantely, wataru, mac the ripper doesn't give enuf detailed "choices" for what you want. even re-ripping i had the same choices. "feature" "titles", that kind of stuff. i want just 3 of the 8 extras and none of the feature(s). they dont have an option for that. thanks anyway

if you have Toast 7, add the VOB files for the extras you want to keep to a DVD-Video disc in Toast and it'll burn those to a DVD with no menu or one of the built-in menu templates. Any reason you specifically don't want all of the extras? If you get rid of the main feature they should all fit on a single DVD, so you could keep the original DVD's menus and everything, and just watch the extras you want to see.

"I start fires!"

This is the correct answer, but just to add, there is one good native MPEG editor for Mac (meaning that you don't have to re-encode anything, but you will probably end up remuxing a few times, and you won't get frame-accurate editing or any special effects), and it's called MPEG StreamClip.
