Hi, I have a question regarding iPhoto. I have searched for a while through this forum and have not found a post which addresses my question so I apologize if this is a question that has come up before. Basically, my pictures are taking up the majority of my hard drive. I want to change it so that my iPhoto files can be exclusively stored on an external hard drive and when I download them from my camera that they will automatically be stored on the external drive. Is it possible to remap my current iPhoto files to an external drive in a way that iPhoto will still be able to find them and so my new pictures will automatically be stored on it. I'm sure there's an easy answer to this, but I just wanted to check before I started messing around with my computer. Thanks!

Try iPhoto Buddy 2.6... look it up in www.versiontracker.com or www.macupdate.com.
I'm currently using it to store my iPhoto library on a portable drive and haven't encountered any problems, plus it's free.

Thanks for the advice!
I read somewhere that iPhoto in iLife 6 lets you choose between librarys, any idea if this is true?

From the iPhoto 6 Help:
"By default, iPhoto copies photos imported from your hard disk, leaving the originals in their original location and making duplicates for use in the iPhoto library.
However, if you already have an extensive collection of photos saved on your computer and you prefer to leave your photos in their current file structure, you can choose to have iPhoto point to your original photo files instead of copying them in iPhoto. Either way, you can still make full use of iPhoto."
Sounds like this would do the job.

I have my photos stored on an external, iPhoto 5 through 6. All you have to do is to move the library folder to the external, then tell iPhoto where to look for the library. Obviously, you must have the external on and mounted for this to work. iPhoto Buddy is not needed. I do plan to use it, though to split my libraries and have the most recent pics on the computer and the older ones on the external. But it works just fine without Buddy!
