I saw flip4mac or whatever its called, but I'm not going to pay money for something that should be much more simple. Quicktime is total crap and hardly plays anything. VLC is wonderful, but doesn't play wmv files and Windows Media Player for mac is total crap too. Someone help me.

Flip4Mac is available for free. Quicktime is not "total crap." VLC DOES play WMV files and yes, Windows Media Player for Mac is "total crap."

I once downloaded flip4mac for free and everytime I played a video, a banner came on top of the screen telling me that only half of the video will play, and it didn't lie. This was in my old mac, has this changed? Please link me to wherever it is if it is really free now.
How is Quicktime not total crap? It plays only about 3 types of video files, and it doesn't even do it that great.
VLC cannot play WMV files on MY mac... and according to
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html
that, it can only play certain types...

You can get Flip4Mac from Microsoft for free..just the player/plugin for quicktime to view movies, etc. You have to pay if you want to export, etc. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win.../flip4mac.mspx
As for QT being crap, I'm going to disagree. Its a fairly standard player...millions & millions of people use it (even on Windows!)..and it plays more than 3 types of files!

Too many Apple/Mac products to even bother listing!

ouch. here's a blow: i can't even get flip because im on a mactel...
I'll agree that QT is a "fairly standard player", but nowhere as nice as it should be as an apple product.

The current lack of support for Mactel computers is sort of annoying. I was trying to watch a HD video but it ran awefull on windos media player.
Hopefully they will have an update soon...

You can use Flip4Mac via Rosetta, and they are working the the Intel version..should be done any day now.
Info for getting F4M to work with Rosetta
- Download Flip4Mac ... it'll show up on your desktop.
- Control-click on it and select "show package contents"
- Double click on the "contents", then "Resources" folder
- Then double click on "Flip4Mac Quicktime components.pkg" to install
- Before you run quicktime ... do a "get info" on quicktime and check the open in rosetta box.
Additional info:
After you've downloaded and installed Flip4Mac (post upgrading to Max OSX 10.4.5):
In your Applications folder: highlight QuickTime; go to "File" drop down menu and click "Get Info"; check the Rosetta box.
Then do the same thing in your Apps folder for Safari.
You then need to restart your computer.
