I have a new macbook pro, and used migration assistant to transfer programs from an equally new (one week) PowerMac G5. I have noticed when I use Safari, it frequently takes several seconds to load a web page. The blue bar in the address bar stops after "http://", and can pause there for several seconds. eventually the page will load; if I stop the page loading and refresh, the page frequently loads like a shot. as it stands, safari is extremely slow.

returning to the same website does not improve the situation. resetting safari, or deleting the safari preferences folder doesn't help. the powermac from which I migrated software runs safari great. I have a g4 powerbook that uses the same wireless network as my Macbook, and Safari works fine.

It's quite frustrating, since every review of the Macbook says that, even if Rosetta-run software is slow, Safari loads pages like a shot!! (except for me...)

Seems you have a problem in your /Library folder, I suggest repairing permissions with Disk Utility and see if that solves it.

Thanks for the tip. I tried it, but it doesn't seem to have helped. The weird thing is that the problem only seems to occur at home, where I have a D-link router. Older powerbooks (one Ti, one aluminum) seem to run safari faster than my macbook at home. My Macbook runs Safari great at work (noticeably faster than my 1.5 Al 15" PB), where I use the university wireless (don't know what hardware they use).

Safari is full of memory leaks and similar issues. It frequently stalls for a minute or two during regular use on both mine and my wife's Macs. I've filed numerous bug reports with Apple.

Mind you, it happens less frequently now than under 10.4.0. I could hardly use Safari then.

Figure out why it cannot make /Library/Application Support/Syndication.
I'd put money that's where the lockup is coming from (Safari's trying to prepare it's history file so it can by synced between computers)
See if Application Support is locked to you, see if Syndication already exists but is locked (perhaps try moving the folder to somewhere else if it exists, restarting, and seeing if you still get that problem?)
Then find and run Print Center Repair.
