Ok here is the story.

My hard drive had crashed. I bought a new hard drive. I have about 90% of my music files on my ipod, so I figured I would just transfer the files on my ipod back into my new hard drive. I successfully did this using "Ipodrip". Now I have all those recently transferred files on my new hard drive under a single folder. It is organized in the way that my ipod had it.

What I need to know right now is the best way to add those songs back into itunes, and preferably keep it organized the way it was with artist, song, album etc., before I had any hard drive problems. Right now on my itunes it has all my music organized the way it was, but with the exclamation (!) to the left of each song title, understandably because itunes doesn't know where my files have gone and that I used to have a shitty ass hard drive!!!

All I have done on itunes so far is change the designated itunes folder to one on my new hard drive.

Please help me. I thank all of you in advance for checking out my post.

Well, the next step would be to "Add to Library..." from the file menu
(or type command-o... or drag the folder to the iTunes library window).

Over at http://www.dougscripts.com/itunes/index.php should be some
scripts for resolving broken associations and removing duplicate items.

BTW, the iPod is a *playback* device... not a backup device. Serious music
collectors will want to have their entire library (playlists and files) backedup to
a FireWire or DVD (or something), using appropriate backup/burning software.
