My Excel application just crashes every time I try to open a excel file. The application seems to work fine except when I try to open a spreadsheet.
What can I do in order to avoid reinstalation?

Also if I try to use the excel from a different user on my Mac (I am the only user but I created another one to see if it the excel works with this one) everything works perfectly.

Could there be an error in the user libraries?

I have iMac G5 OSX 10.3.9 and Office 2004

Sounds like something is corrupt with one of the files in your User library (~/Library). I would try first with the Excel files in ~Library/Preferences/Microsoft/. Just move them onto your Desktop and see if Excel opens a file. If it still fails, they are not the problem - put them back into the folder and try one of the other files. Are the other Office programs OK? If so, it's probably unrelated to the 'Office' files in that Microsoft folder. This sounds quite solvable though.
