For some reason ever since I updated to iTunes 6.03, I haven't been able to use the "multiple speakers" function of iTunes.

I'm currently running v6.0.4.

My airport express is up to date with the latest software as well.

Any ideas?

Is your firewall blocking UDP traffic?. Check under System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall > Advanced.

Y no entienden nada... ¡y cómo se divierten!...

Nope, nothing is checked under Advanced in Firewall.

I do have the FW on, and only whatever I need open is open (web sharing/iTunes & iPhoto sharing... and a few other things). I can listen to only the remote speakers, or only the computer speakers.... but not both at the same time like I could on early versions of itunes 6

Did you try disabling APE/ShapeShifter? I noticed in your *cough* last thread on this subject *cough* that, judging by the screenshot you provided, you appeared to be using some sort of theme or iTunes skin. I would try ruling that out.

edit: Does disabling the firewall help?

cybergoober >> yup, I know its a duplicate thread, but I got more replies out of this one.

Yea, I'm using Shape Shifter + Ape, but I've also had that running since I bought Shape Shifter a couple years ago, and it worked fine in pre 6.0.3 iTunes. However, I formatted my laptop over the weekend, and did not install Shape Shifter until Tuesday, I wasn't able to use multiple speakers even after the format with only the Apple updates installed, and nothing more. I'll try disabling Ape/SS to see if it kicks things into gear tonight though.

Disabling the FW does not fix it.

This sounds silly also, but... Did you try resetting your APX base station?

I wasn't even aware iiTunes did have a 'multiple speaker' functionality.

I have only ever been able to select one speaker to play out of at a time via airtunes. I don't mean to doubt you, but are you sure you ever had this functionality in the first place? If so, how did you tell iTunes to use more than one speaker at a time?

Don't have that option here, and have never seen it. It's a functionality I have often requested though.

Now I'm intrigued.

a tiger thing (i think that's where i first saw it), or 10.4.2 perhaps...?

i have 2 aE's, one at my desk, one in my bedroom, both hooked up to powered speakers.
everything is up-to-date (itunes, os x, ae firmware...)

and mulitple speakers is an option in itunes popup list (after computer and each aE listed seperately).

Yup, I did reset the AE via the reset button on the AE itself.

I'm not sure if the feature was first in Tiger or iTunes 6, but its been around for a little while now.

Its just plain annoying at this point because I did format this past weekend so I know its not because of software, or setting on my laptop.

Actually, now that I think about it there is only one difference between when it last worked and when it stopped working. I stopped using the AE wirelessly due to frequent drops in audio for no reason, despite perfect signal strength/connectivity according to the LED. I laid out an ethernet cable and now it gets its sound over cat5e as opposed to wifi. Would that have anything to do with it?

do u have the lastest firmware on the aEs? (u have 1 aE for each speaker set right?);
i think you download the firmware thru the airport admin utility...

also...what about a complete reset of the aE; ie back to it's original state (you have to create anew the network, passwords, etc...)?
