I have a client who submits files to us on CD for printing. The files are saved from Quark v6.5 on a PC. However, none of the documents open in Quark v6.5 on the Mac. Quark simply shuts down when attempting to open the file.

The client claims that they can send similar files elsewhere to other Mac users without issue.

I've had no other Quark v6.5 issues at all, so I'm guessing it something with the way that the client is saving the files, but it doesn't sound like they are doing anything special.

What else should I ask the client to try? What else can I try?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

With "shuts down" do you mean "crashes"? If so, does the crash log maybe give you a hint at what's going wrong?

First, if he has Quark Passport, that could be causing the problem if the document's language settings are screwy. Second, you might ask him to resave and resend, because I've had Quark files get corrupted in transport and even seen Quark just corrupt its own files.

No guarantee those will work, but just thought I'd throw them out there, because they've fixed things for me in the past.

Sorry, it does crash Quark. I'll take a look into the crash log and see what I find.

Could a corrupted font cause Quark to crash right at start-up? I was under the impression that Quark doesn't even need the fonts in order to at least load a compatible document.

Yeah, definitely not using Passport, as I've seen that whole "Multiple vs. Single Language" thing in the past as well, but that is not the issue this time for sure.

**ISSUE RESOLVED**

Was a corrupted User "Library"...I re-built it and everything is fine now. Probaby a bad cache, preference, font collection, or something in-between causing the issue.
